Brush fires are many times fought by traveling along the fire line. Previously fire truck manufacturers needed to install a body-mounted engine and pump assembly on the fire truck to roll along the fire line. The body-mounted engines are noisy, used precious space, and are expensive. With the introduction of a live PTO and the modified transfer case, manufacturers of fire trucks can build trucks using the PTO to shaft drive larger pumps and still have the capability to pump and roll. On this truck the LiveDrive PTO System shaft drives a Hale AP 500 GPM fire pump.
